Jan Exner
Postdoctoral Researcher
Jan Exner is a postdoctoral researcher at Peace Research Center Prague.
He is also an assistant professor at the European Law Department of the Faculty of Law of Charles University.
Research focus
In his research, Jan focuses on the legal aspects of sports. He is particularly interested in the intersection between European and international law and transnational sports law of sporting governing bodies. Jan concentrates on the rule of law in the fight against doping in sports, particularly sanctions and their proportionality.

Jan studied law at the Faculty of Law of Charles University, where he obtained a master’s degree in 2016, became a doctor of laws in 2018 and completed his Ph.D. in 2022. He also obtained Diplôme d’Etude de l’Union Européenne from Université Toulouse 1 Capitole in 2015. Besides law, he completed the Executive Masters in Sport Organisations Management at the Université Catholique de Louvain in 2021. On top of research, Jan practices law as an attorney and an arbitrator of the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
